Position Summary:

This job contributes to McCain Food India’s success by managing the implementation and execution of Quality Assurance programs in the market place to ensure the availability of safe, wholesome, premium quality finished products for our customers. Models and acts in accordance with McCain’s Food Safety and Quality Management System.

The job includes overall market quality responsibilities, overall responsibility of Third Party Manufacturing as well as working closely with Plant Quality with clear defined responsibilities.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
  • Analyzes Food Safety and Quality management systems across the distributor and retail outlets as it relates to handling and movement of food products throughout the logistics chain.
  • Assesses distributor operations and execution consistency and reliability including cold chain data analysis. Food distribution supply chain auditing.
  • Validates Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s), audit data and corrective actions resultant from verification activities to distributors’ management.
  • Investigates internal/external customer/consumer complaints, praise, and inquiries, regulator and workgroup input. Provides recommendations for improvement and follows up on execution.
  • Manages the interface with other functions to recommend and oversee updates of distribution operating procedures, standards manuals and operational tools that are related to distribution food safety, product quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Communicates effectively to provide internal customers with appropriate awareness and knowledge of distribution quality assurance standards, requirement, program updates and process changes.
  • Interfaces and influences cross-functional teams as the product safety, quality management system expert in the development of new initiatives or operating practices. Ensures company business initiatives meet product safety, quality and regulatory standards at the market place.
  • Acts as subject matter expert on project teams to support product safety and quality initiatives to develop and implement new distribution QA programs or procedure improvements needed to support business initiatives. Collaborates and influences cross functionally to create alignment of distribution QA programs across the company.
  • Leads investigation, resolution and corrective action management activities for distribution related product safety and quality incidents and operating practices. Determines and recommends appropriate mitigation activities.
  • Provides product distribution safety and quality consultation and support to cross functional teams in execution of business initiatives.
  • Provides regulatory and technical inputs for handling of customer complaint arising in market place for issues related to distribution and supply chain.
  • Acts as functional expert to ensure finished product is food safety and quality protected during storage and transportation activities.
  • Conducts a gap analysis, identification of possible food safety risks in the distribution chain, trend reporting for key quality/food safety attributes, and coordinates follow-up action plans.
  • Ensures on-going food safety and quality compliance at market and 3P location, as determined by McCain India’s R&D Department affecting products and provides leadership for compliance issues in partnership with Innovation, Supply Chain, Quality, Legal and other related depts.
  • Works closely with McCain India’s logistics and supply chain to ensure McCain’s KEFSQ requirements are implemented and followed for the distributor appointment process. Actively takes part in the DC evaluation process.
  • Analysis of key service level attributes which includes damaged cases, temperature abuse and inspection records.
  • Educates the sales, distribution and logistics team on various quality and food safety issues arising in the market.
  • Conducts periodic inspections of rented cold storages of McCain to ensure McCain’s finished products are protected and fulfil the GMP requirements defined by McCain Foods.
  • Conducts Market sample analysis of McCain’s products at a periodic basis to understand the behavior of the product at retail outlets and shares the information and results with plant QA.
  • Acts as a lead at the 3rd Party Manufacturing site and implements the KEFSQ requirements of McCain’s Food Safety and Quality Management System at the 3rd Party Location.
  • Conducts regular inspections of 3P products including routine market sampling and sensory evaluations to ensure finished products are in compliance defined by McCain Foods.
  • Overall responsible for Hold/Release of products produced at 3P manufacturing site.
  • Responsible for conducting root cause analysis and corrective action for any adverse quality incident including internal near misses for 3P products.
Requirements:

Academic and other accreditations:

  • Food Technologist/Master’s Degree in Science.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001; ISO 22000. Knowledge of FSSC 22000 is desirable.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to FSSAI.

Related Work Experience:

  • Minimum 4-5 years in Food Industry, preferably frozen foods or temperature sensitive foods.
  • Experience of implementing GMP and food safety/quality management system in food manufacturing, and/or distribution supply chain.
  • Progressive experience of managing the development and review of information required to comply with food safety, quality management system and regulatory compliance requirements to assess and validate product safety/quality.
  • Progressive experience within a quality assurance department including quality management, manufacturing product QA and distribution QA.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

(a) Functional Competencies
  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required
  • Knowledge of food manufacturing operations and QA programs.
  • Knowledge of food technology, food microbiology, safe food handling procedures and foodservice sanitation practices.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP Principles,
    ISO 9000, FSSC 22000, GFSI, regulations and applicable food codes for foodservice operations.
  • Ability to design and conduct Quality and Food Safety Audits.
  • Ability to manage multiple, complex projects and responsibilities in a fast-changing environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively and influence internal customers and external service providers
  • Ability to apply sound technical principles to root cause analyses, problem solving and project management.
  • Familiarity with product regulations, food safety, product labeling and nutrition science including FSSAI and Legal Metrology.
  • In depth understanding of food safety, food labeling and nutrition
  • Ability to lead small teams, to manage progress effectively in ambiguous and unstructured situations
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver accurate outcomes
