Job Purpose-

Shift Manager is responsible to lead the Site operations during his shift by taking the complete responsibility and ownership in the absence of VSM/Plant Manager during shifts. The role requires the Shift Manager to be a key driver to make sure that shift teams are motivated and engaged to deliver the manufacturing goals w.r.t. Safety/Quality/Cost to execute production plan/ schedule. Ensures the line is running smoothly and producing quality products.  The role also requires Shift Manager to ensure that his team is effectively converting the raw material into the finished goods while maintaining process specifications and quality standard in a safe and sanitary environment. The incumbent of the role is responsible to lead his team in solving problems and Continuous improvement.

 

Key Responsibilities-

  • Manufacturing Targets: To deliver planned factory output, TRS by effectively organizing the shift resources and activities and/or support troubleshooting activities. Meeting production plan.
  • Preventive Maintenance & Reliability: To manage PM activities to schedule and ensure the shift team is properly trained to maintain the efficiency and reliability of factory operations.
  • Technology Advancement – Recommend improvements related to moving the area forward in technological change, which would result in new and improved equipment and/or methods to minimize production costs and improve quality.
  • Change Agent: Recommend and implement changes in methods, equipment, systems and organization, as needed, to assure that the objectives of the area are met.  Deliver area requirements by influencing and practicing high performance collaboration with allied functions.
  • Area Strategy – Support associates in the implementation of improvement strategies that will help their areas perform more effectively in the near term and the future.
  • Associate Advocacy: Drive Associate engagement through a foundation of teamwork and involvement. Manage and develop direct reports (incl. talent management, people evaluation and engagement) to enable appropriate succession planning and career development.
  • Associate Development: Lead the continuous up-skilling and development of operational expertise of my team as necessary to deliver the supply strategy for the Hyderabad Site by deploying standards, best practices and tools to achieve this. Actively provide development opportunities to team including stretch assignments for OJT as well as through Mars U learning resources and track/evaluate their learning effectiveness.
  • Identify and review opportunities for development for selected “local pool” of talent (Production Assistants)
  • Engagement: Improve associates moral and build highly engaged high performance team.
  • Reliability: To manage Preventive Maintenance activities to schedule and ensure the shift team is properly trained to maintain the efficiency and reliability of factory operations.
  • Continuous Improvement, learning & flexible team: Co-ordinate ongoing continuous improvement projects. To continuously improve the yield of first-pass quality, saleable product and actively seek ways to reduce and eliminate inefficiencies, consumer complaints resulting from factory activities
  • Lean: Eliminate 7 wastes in operation, reduce manufacturing conversion cost, and continuously drive for lean operation.
  • OGSM and Manufacturing Targets: Fulfill OGSM & OP commitment. Develop team and direct reports to higher level in technical and managerial. To deliver planned factory output, TRS and PSL by effectively organizing the shift resources and activities and/or support troubleshooting activities.
  • Other Responsibilities: Response to exceptions and escalations. Works orders completion for maintenance. Facilitate small group activities, problem solving etc.
  • Safety: To ensure safety of all the associates and contractors working in the plant, safety of our products, property and all activities in the plant when on duty.
  • Food Safety, Hygiene, and GMP: To ensure factory hygiene and adherence to GMP in the plant and continuously seek to improve in this area through good communication, training of associates and good management.
  • Quality- “Associate is responsible to ensure effective implementation of Mars QMP (Quality Management Process), Quality and Food Safety requirements including Personnel Hygiene and GMP stated by the Organization as applicable. Associate shall deliver through Respective Area/Process Standard Operating Procedures. Meet basic competency requirements mentioned in the job Role Skill Matrix to ensure Quality and Food Safety requirements are implemented to satisfactory level.”
  • ESH-Create ESH culture within the team through visible demonstration, engaging his/her team in all ESH activities, defining ESH objective as annual KRA’s and effective deployment of ESH Policy/Management system. Responsible to ensure that Risk assessment is performed and controls implemented and maintained for all operational activities. Overall responsibility to ensure the functional compliance to Mars Global Standards, Asset conservation standards and all relevant local ESH legislation.
  • Support the calibration process for performance review of technicians/QA associates/WH associates
  • Responsible for coaching & mentoring production officer who supports in operations during the shift.
  • Participates in preparing budgets and phasing expenditures. May be required to do project execution and meeting project deliverables on time.
  • Routings forms an evident part of the role.
  • Carry out closing activities at the end of every period and work out the variance and analyses the reasons for same to draw improvement plans.

Food safety Team Member responsibilities

  • Provide input related to operations for development of WI Manual, SOPs, PRP’s, OPR’s & CCP’s
  • Involvement in development of flow diagram, Hazard analysis and control measure Assessment.
  • Implement & monitor GMP food safety requirements related to production.
  • Maintain food safety related documents
  • Active involvement in  establishing & maintaining tractability system & its related documents
Internal Auditor responsibilities
  • Responsible to conduct unbiased audit
  • Identify compliance of the existing system as compared to the requirements of ISO 22000:2005/FSSC 22000
  • Adhere to the schedule to conduct effective Audit
  • Hand over the working papers and the audit checklists to the lead auditor for preparing the
  • Audit report
Job Specifications/Qualifications

Educational & Professional Qualification
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Food Science or Applied Sciences

Knowledge/Experience

  • At least 7 years of experience in Manufacturing with good experience of leading Direct Reports.  Good coaching & people management skills.
