Oceanic Foods Limited Jamnagar Gujarat – Quality Head / FSTL
1. Regulatory & Statutory Compliance
• Act as the Food Safety Team Leader (FSTL) under FSSAI and ensure full compliance with:
o Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006
o Schedule 4 of FSSAI (GMP & GHP)
o Product-specific FSSAI regulations
o Legal Metrology, Packaging & Labelling Rules
• Liaise with FSSAI authorities, auditors, and inspectors during inspections and audits.
• Ensure timely renewal of FSSAI licenses, product approvals, and statutory registrations.
• Monitor updates in food laws and communicate regulatory changes to relevant departments.
2. Food Safety Management System (FSMS)
• Establish, implement, and maintain FSMS in line with:
o HACCP principles
o ISO 22000 / FSSC 22000 (if applicable)
• Lead HACCP studies, including:
o Hazard identification
o CCP determination
o Control measures and validation
• Ensure proper documentation, implementation, and periodic review of:
o SOPs
o PRPs
o OPRPs
o CCP records
3. Quality Assurance & Quality Control
• Define and enforce quality standards for raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods.
• Approve suppliers and raw materials based on quality and food safety criteria.
• Ensure incoming, in-process, and final product inspections are conducted as per SOP.
• Review and approve COAs, test reports, and batch release documentation.
• Monitor shelf-life studies and product stability.
4. Hygiene, GMP & GHP
• Ensure strict implementation of:
o Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
o Good Hygiene Practices (GHP)
• Oversee:
o Personal hygiene compliance
o Cleaning and sanitation programs
o Pest control management
o Water quality monitoring
• Ensure hygiene zoning and cross-contamination controls are maintained.
5. Training & Awareness
• Conduct regular food safety and hygiene training for:
o Production staff
o QA/QC teams
o Contractual and housekeeping staff
• Ensure employees are trained on:
o Personal hygiene
o SOP adherence
o Food safety hazards
• Maintain training records and evaluate training effectiveness.
6. Internal Audits & Continuous Improvement
• Plan and conduct internal audits of production, QA, warehouse, and utilities.
• Identify non-conformities, recommend corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and track closure.
• Lead management review meetings related to food safety and quality performance.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives in quality and food safety.
7. Customer Complaints & Product Recall
• Investigate customer complaints, identify root causes, and implement CAPA.
• Maintain and periodically test product recall and traceability systems.
• Ensure batch traceability from raw material to finished product.
• Handle market complaints and regulatory notices professionally.
8. Documentation & Record Control
• Ensure proper creation, control, and retention of:
o FSMS documents
o Quality manuals
o SOPs and records
o Audit reports and compliance evidence
• Ensure document version control and accessibility.
9. Cross-Functional Coordination
• Work closely with:
o Production
o Procurement
o Warehouse
o Maintenance
o HR
• Ensure quality and food safety requirements are integrated into daily operations and decision-making.
10. Leadership & Team Management
• Lead and mentor the QA/QC team.
• Define roles, KPIs, and performance objectives for quality personnel.
• Ensure adequate staffing and competency within the quality function.
• Promote a food safety culture across the organization.
11. Risk Management & Crisis Handling
• Identify food safety risks and implement mitigation plans.
• Handle food safety incidents, deviations, and emergencies.
• Act as the primary authority during food safety crises.
