Ayurveda Aahara gets new guidelines added for consumer safety
The Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued new guidelines for Food Safety and Standards (Ayurveda Aahara) Regulations, 2022. The Food business operators (FBOs) need to comply with the new guidelines to ensure consumer safety.
There are a few general instructions implemented and a few improvisations made for safety purposes. The regulations recommend designing the Ayurveda Aahara as per the categories and requirements specified in Schedule B of the regulation. Also, the people, manufacturer, or FBO cannot sell or introduce the administration for infants up to the age of 24 months.
Manufacturers or FBOs are directed to follow Schedule 4 of FSS (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulation, 2011. Furthermore, the instructions are directed concerning the inclusion of vitamins, amino acids, and minerals to Ayurveda Aahara. Provided, the FBOs are recommended to mention the natural vitamins and minerals declared on the label. Under the new guidelines, the FBO is recommended to provide the information on purity criteria adopted for ingredients during licensing.
Specific instructions are to be followed while labeling the Ayurveda Aahara. The FBO needs to comply with the Schedule E regulations and other basic norms that help to avoid unfavorable outcomes.
Ashwin Bhadri, CEO, Equinox Labs says “Ayurveda Aahara or food preparation should be done as per the recipes or ingredients or methods defined under ‘Schedule A’ of the regulation. This regulation ensures the food that is provided or served to the consumer should not be violated. These diet plans are designed to improve the lifestyle of the consumers. The regulations framed by FSSAI allow to ensure there is no FBO, manufacturer or any person serving wrong consumables to the consumers. It is the need of the hour that the consumers should be provided with safe and hygienic food.”
